India’s homegrown tech giant, Lava International, has launched the country’s first 5G smartphone factory in Chennai. The new facility, which spans over 50 acres, aims to produce up to 2 million 5G smartphones per month. The factory’s inauguration was attended by top officials from the Indian government, including the Minister of Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The 5G smartphone factory is a significant step towards India’s goal of becoming a global electronics manufacturing hub. The factory is expected to create over 1,000 jobs and will cater to the growing demand for 5G smartphones in the country. Lava International has partnered with the Indian government to set up the factory and has received financial support from the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
