According to MetService, the national weather forecasting agency, the lowest temperature recorded in Auckland on July 28 was 1.2 degrees Celsius, breaking the previous record of 2.3 degrees Celsius set in 1999.

The MetService has also issued a cold snap warning, predicting that temperatures will remain below 5 degrees Celsius for the next few days. “We urge people to take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe during this cold snap,” said a MetService spokesperson. “Older adults, young children, and people with chronic health conditions are particularly vulnerable to cold temperatures and should take extra precautions to stay warm.”
