In a respite to Bangalore’s parched areas, the delayed monsoon has finally brought much-needed rainfall to the city, bringing down the mercury and reviving its water bodies. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city has received 30% more rainfall than its average monsoon season, with most areas witnessing significant precipitation in the past week alone.
The delayed monsoon, which was expected to hit Bangalore in June, arrived in the city in the last week of July, bringing much-needed relief to the city’s drought-hit areas. The rains have not only brought down the temperature by 3-4 degrees Celsius but have also revived the city’s water bodies, including lakes and reservoirs. The rainfall has also brought a significant reduction in the air quality, making it more pleasant for residents to breathe.
The IMD has forecasted that the monsoon will continue to grip the city for the next 10-15 days, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall in most areas. While the delayed monsoon has brought relief to Bangalore, it has also raised concerns about the potential impact on the city’s infrastructure, including roads and buildings. The city authorities are working to mitigate the effects of the heavy rainfall and ensure that the city’s infrastructure can withstand the monsoon rains.
