In a bid to enhance the experience of visually impaired passengers, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has initiated a nationwide replacement of tactile tiles at all public transportation nodes in Singapore. The project aims to improve accessibility and safety for commuters who rely on the Braille dots and raised surfaces to navigate the transport system.
The LTA has partnered with various stakeholders, including transport operators and disability organizations, to oversee the replacement of over 150,000 tactile tiles across the island. The new tiles will be made of a durable, high-quality material that provides clear and consistent tactile feedback, ensuring a smoother and more efficient travel experience for visually impaired commuters.
The project is expected to be completed in phases, with the first set of replaced tiles already visible at major transport hubs such as MRT stations and bus interchanges.
